Zoom in on Blossoms and Bugs – Getting Started in Close-Up Photography

Location: The Crosby Arboretum, Picayune, Mississippi

Spend the afternoon photographing magical close ups of flowers, insects, and plants. Learn about focus, light, equipment, composition, settings, and techniques to bring your garden photography to life. You should already have a working knowledge of your camera and settings (f-stop, shutter speed, iso) and be able to shoot in manual mode.

 

Required equipment: DSLR camera. Phone camera OK – but will not be the main emphasis of instruction. However, we will be discussing a few Phone camera techniques. Tripod. Extra batteries and SD cards.

 

Lenses (one or more of the following): telephoto zoom lens, macro lens, extension rings, reversal ring + 50mm lens or higher lens

 

Highly recommended: shutter release, light modifiers (diffusers, reflectors). Optional: monopod, flash/diffuser

 

Bring a Chair for the first half and Backpack or something to carry items during walk.

 

Also, don’t forget: bug spray, sunscreen, hat, water, notebook/pen
